The Urea Breath Test is a non-invasive, pain-free way to check for an active H. pylori infection. You'll give a breath sample, drink a solution that reacts to the bacteria by releasing carbon dioxide, then give a second breath sample about 15 minutes later. It's one of the most reliable non-invasive ways to detect a current infection — and it's also used to confirm that treatment worked. Who This Test Is For • Anyone with burning stomach pain, persistent bloating, or acid reflux that hasn't resolved • Anyone whose provider suspects a peptic ulcer or gastritis • Anyone confirming that H. pylori treatment was successful • Anyone who wants a non-invasive alternative to endoscopy for initial screening What to Expect & Preparation Preparation: Fast for at least 1 hour before your test. Avoid antibiotics, proton pump inhibitors (like omeprazole or Nexium), and bismuth preparations (like Pepto-Bismol) for 2 weeks before testing — these can cause a false negative result. Your Lab Visit: A breath sample, a urea solution, a short wait, then a second breath sample — about 30 minutes total. Walk in or book online at our location right off the I-10 close to downtown.
